The track earned further fame being the original home of 2004 Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby champion Smarty Jones. The Parx was given its current name in 1984 when ITB purchased the venue. The complex opened as a replacement for the Liberty Bell Park Racetrack. Some of the notable restaurants located within Parx include Beer Garden, Bambu Noodle House, Liberty Bell Gastropub, Chickie's & Pete's, Oliveto, Parxgrill, and Xlounge. The complex provides two locations for off-track betting. Parx Casino and Racing is well-known for offering online gambling as well as online sports betting. It also features a poker room with 48 poker tables, 188 live table games, live racing and simulcast action, several dining options and bars, sports betting, and the Xcite Center. Parx features 3200 slot machines with a 24-hour gaming facility. The complex is owned and operated by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc. The Racetrack was officially inaugurated on November 4, 1974, and the Casino opened on December 18, 2009. The venue was formerly known as Philadelphia Park Racetrack and Casino. Parx Casino and Racing is a Thoroughbred horse racing venue and one of the largest casino gaming complexes located in Pennsylvania.
